Kolkata: After a spectacular lok sabha election in West Bengal, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is now in a new phase to increase its mass base. The BJP is gearing up to counter the Bengali image of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) by entering the Durga Puja committees. West Bengal is famous for Durga Puja all over the world. It is organised through all the committees in the state.

BJP leaders are in touch with Durga Puja Committees to become part of it. With the BJP sponsoring the committees, there is also a keenness to get the national leaders to inaugurate. In fact, it is the BJP's endeavour to undermine the TMC's Bengal identity-related image on which it wins the elections. The BJP is trying to prove itself much closer to Bengal than the TMC. Durga Puja will be held from 4th October.

At present, the process of setting up of organizing committees is underway. According to the Indian Express report, left-wing leaders do not join these organizing committees. The TMC leaders had begun their phase of joining the Durga Puja Committees before 2011. After assuming power in 2011, the TMC leaders got a majority in these committees, after which the TMC leaders took charge. After which Mamata Banerjee, the cm of the province herself, has been inaugurating the events, now the BJP is trying to break the same image of Mamata.
