Bhopal Gaurav Diwas, celebrated on June 1st each year, holds great significance for the city of Bhopal in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. This day commemorates the spirit of resilience and courage displayed by the people of Bhopal in the face of one of the world's worst industrial disasters, the Bhopal Gas Tragedy. It serves as a reminder of the strength and unity exhibited by the citizens during the aftermath of the tragedy and their ongoing efforts towards justice, healing, and sustainable development.

The Bhopal Gas Tragedy:  On the night of December 2-3, 1984, a catastrophic incident occurred at the Union Carbide India Limited (UCIL) pesticide plant in Bhopal. A toxic gas leak of methyl isocyanate (MIC) resulted in the loss of thousands of lives and left a lasting impact on the survivors and their subsequent generations. The tragedy not only caused immediate deaths and injuries but also had severe long-term health and environmental consequences.
