United States: The acquisition of Twitter Inc by Elon Musk has been criticized by President Joe Biden, who claimed that the social media site was used to spread false information.

During a fundraiser in Chicago on Friday night, Biden made passing remarks as he cautioned donors about the impact the November 8 midterm election could have in years to come.

Why are we all so worried right now? Elon Musk goes out and buys a company that spreads lies all over the world," Biden said.

For $44 billion, Musk, who describes himself as a champion of free speech, bought Twitter. He launched a plan to lay off about half of the company's 7,500 employees after sacking the board and most of the top executives.

Although their plans to replace Twitter's content moderation have worried advertisers such as Pfizer Inc. and General Mills Inc., they have announced they will temporarily halt their ad spend on the website while they wait to see what happens. That's how Musk plans to change that.

Civil rights organizations are increasing their pressure on advertisers to ensure that Musk takes action to prevent the platform from serving as a platform for hate speech or propaganda.
