USA: During his State of the Union address, US President Joe Biden was interrupted by boos and shouting. Georgia Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene called him a "liar" after he criticised the GOP's economic agenda.

In his speech on Tuesday, Vice President Biden placed a strong emphasis on his domestic policies, praising the administration's initiatives to combat inflation, unemployment, climate change, Covid-19, and a number of other issues. At one point, Biden accused lawmakers from opposing parties of plotting to eliminate welfare benefits for Americans.

I understand that some of my Republican friends want to hold the economy hostage until I accept their economic plans. You should all be aware of those plans at home, he said. Republicans who oppose making the wealthy pay their fair share want Medicare and Social Security to expire.

Immediately after making the remark, Republicans began to react angrily, booing and hissing at the president as he made an effort to calm them down.

I'm not saying it's the majority of you," he continued, adding that "anybody who doubts it" could read a copy of a GOP plan to cut Medicare and Social Security benefits.

Congresswoman Greene, also known as 'MTG,' was heard yelling "liar" towards the podium amid the jeers, as well as repeatedly giving Vice President Biden the thumbs down. Some lawmakers, like House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, chose to avoid open disruption and instead simply shook their heads in disapproval as they joined in the demonstration.

The majority of Biden's speech was devoted to domestic and economic concerns, but he did mention international affairs when he said that the US would continue to pursue fierce "competition" with China.

Before I assumed office, the narrative centred on how America was losing influence around the world while the People's Republic of China was gaining strength. Not any longer, he continued, "Today, we're in the best position in decades to compete with China or anyone else in the world.

When referring to the recent shooting down of a Chinese high-altitude balloon that passed over the US, the president noted that his administration would cooperate with Beijing whenever possible but insisted that "if China threatens our sovereignty we will act to protect our country, and we did." Chinese officials have denied the suggestion made by Washington that the gadget may have been used for surveillance.

Biden claimed to have "united NATO" and "built a global coalition" to oppose Russia, calling the hostilities a "test for America," and the conflict in Ukraine was briefly brought up. The president welcomed Oksana Markarova,

the ambassador of Ukraine to the US, as a special guest and reaffirmed his commitment to providing Kiev with weapons and other assistance for "as long as it takes." Since last year, he has authorised about $30 billion in direct military aid.
