President Joe Biden is visiting the Pacific Northwest for the first time since taking office on Thursday to highlight progress on his programme, notably in the area of infrastructure, ahead of the November midterm elections.
Biden will attend a fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee during his visits to Portland and Seattle, which are part of an increasing travel schedule ahead of the midterms. In recent weeks, White House officials have stated that they want to change their voter engagement strategy by visiting more states to talk about the administration's accomplishments rather than describing the necessity for stalled legislation.
According to the White House, Biden will discuss increased spending made possible by the passing of the USD 1 trillion infrastructure bill, which includes highways and broadband projects, as well as the jobs it would create. Oregon will receive USD1.2 billion, while Washington will receive USD8.6 billion. According to the White House, he will visit Portland's airport on Thursday to discuss investing in an earthquake-resistant runway and will spend Thursday night and Friday in Seattle, where he will commemorate Earth Day and discuss his administration's initiatives to control inflation.
According to a two-day IPSOS opinion poll completed on Tuesday, Biden has a public approval rating of 43%. As the country grapples with high inflation and Russia's invasion of Ukraine, 51 percent of Americans disapprove of Biden's job performance, according to the two-day nationwide poll. In comparison, at the start of his administration, he had approval ratings hovering around 50%.
Biden last visited Seattle in November of this year, when he was campaigning for the Democratic presidential nomination.
