Lucknow: On April 15, Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf were shot dead in police custody. In this matter, after four days, the department took major action. Five policemen from Shahganj police station have been dismissed for negligence in this matter. Among those on whom this action has been taken, apart from Shahganj SO Ashwani Kumar Singh, two sub-inspectors and two constables are included.

As per the information received, Shahganj Police Station is about 100–150 metres away from the site of the massacre. The SIT had questioned all the policemen, including the SO, on Tuesday afternoon regarding this massacre. After this action has been taken against all on the basis of the SIT report, The police were taking Mafia Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf to Colvin Hospital in Prayagraj for medical treatment when three assailants posing as media persons opened fire on them, killing them on the spot.

After committing the same murder, the miscreants immediately surrendered the ATM after raising slogans of Jai Shri Ram. The three murderers were presented in the Prayagraj court on Wednesday, i.e., April 19. The court has sent all three to police remand for four days. The attackers had reached the spot on a Pulsar bike. Police had also recovered three guns and several cartridges from the scene of the incident. The attackers had dummy cameras and the media's mic ID, due to which they could not suspect them. At the time they were murdered, both were in police custody.
