Ratnagiri: Shahrukh Saifi, the culprit of the Kerala train fire incident, was arrested late on Tuesday night from the railway station of Ratnagiri in Maharashtra. The arrest has been carried out by a joint team of Maharashtra ATS and Central Intelligence. Shahrukh had been absconding since the incident. Shahrukh's location was traced a day ago in Ratnagiri. He had come to Ratnagiri Civil Hospital for treatment of head injuries. He was injured when he fell down while getting down after setting a train bogie on fire in Kerala. However, Shahrukh ran away from the hospital without getting treatment.

In fact, the incident of setting fire to passengers inside a moving train in Kozhikode, Kerala, by sprinkling inflammable material came to light on the night of April 2. The offender had a quarrel with co-passengers over seat sharing; thereafter, he threw a bottle full of chemicals and set them on fire. Seeing the sudden fire in the bogie, a woman travelling with a one-year-old child had jumped from the moving train itself. Apart from the two, the police later recovered the body of another person from the tracks. Due to arson, nine other people aboard the train were seriously injured.

Police had said that the incident took place on the Alappuzha-Kannur Executive Express at 9.45 p.m. on Sunday. After crossing Kozhikode city, the train reached the Korapuzha railway bridge. A person had set other passengers on fire by pouring inflammable material. Nine people were badly burned in this arson. After committing the crime, the criminal fled.
