NEW DELHI: Ajit Agarkar, the assistant coach for Delhi Capitals (DC), claimed that his side failed as a unit in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 and that it is inappropriate to criticise specific players. The Gujarat Titans, the defending champions, defeated the Capitals by six wickets on Tuesday, April 4.
Delhi's assistant coach Ajit Agarkar acknowledged that the batting unit, which struggled to break the chains throughout their innings and suffered their second straight loss of the competition in a six-wicket loss to the Titans, needs to step up collectively for much better results. He also firmly defended the young batting tandem of Prithvi Shaw and Sarfaraz Khan in their struggles against quality fast bowling.
"Why single out one or two people when they (Prithvi and Sarfaraz) have made runs in the past against quick bowling and I don't think we batted well overall?" In both games, none of our top order really found its footing. You can tell the difference since we haven't experienced any major runs at the top like some of the other clubs have. There is no purpose in choosing specific people. We need to become better because we played against very good teams both nights and we weren't good enough as a team. Many thanks to Gujarat, but in order to perform better, we must all work together as a batting unit, Agarkar stated in the post-game press conference.
