Former South African great and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Hall of Famer AB de Villiers has confirmed that he will return to the franchise for next year's IPL season. De Villiers, who retired from all forms of cricket a few months ago, did not participate in IPL 2022, in which RCB will play their eliminator match on Wednesday. He said that he does not yet know how he will return.

De Villiers told VUSport, “I will definitely be back in the IPL next year. I would love to return to my second home." De Villiers said, “I will return to RCB next year, I am missing it, I do not know in what form I will return, but I would like to visit my second home Chinnaswamy Stadium. I am looking forward to it. A few days back he was inducted into the RCB Hall of Fame along with West Indies' Chris Gayle.

Considered one of the greatest white-ball cricketers of all time with 9,577 runs in 228 One Day Internationals, de Villiers became the first South African batsman to score a double century in Tests in April 2008, scoring 217 against India. De Villiers, one of the most explosive players in ODIs, scored both the fastest fifty and the fastest century by a batsman in 16 balls and 31 balls respectively in January 2018.
