New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has dropped lessons on a Pakistani poet's nazm, glorifying the Mughal Empire and the expansion of Islam from the Higher Secondary syllabus in the syllabus announced for the new academic session. Shayari of Faiz Ahmed Faiz from the social science books of class 10 of NCERT book and the text of the establishment, rise and expansion of Islam from the history book of 11th have been removed. At the same time, amendments have been made in the chapter on governance and administration of the Mughal Empire from the 12th book.
The Pakistani poet's poetry has been removed from the text 'Religion, Communalism and Politics - Communal, Secular State' of Class 10 textbook 'Democratic Politics II' in the syllabus released by CBSE for the session 2022-23. This poetry was shown through pictures on page number 46, 48, 49. It consists of two posters and a political cartoon. Some part of Faiz's nazm was taken in the poster. One of these poems was written by Faiz when he was being taken to a dentist in chains from Lahore jail. Its name is, 'Even after so many meetings, we remain strangers, even after so much rain, blood stains remain'. At the same time, the second part has been taken from the poetry written during Faiz's visit to Dhaka in 1974. It reads, 'It is not enough to shed tears, not enough to suffer, to cherish love in secret... Today, walk in a chained public square.'
At the same time, the text related to Islam has been removed from the history book of class 11th. In this lesson, information was given about the rise of Islamic empire in the Afro-Asian regions, its contribution to the economy and its impact on society. Apart from this, many lessons have been removed in the new curriculum. The 'Impact of Globalization on Agriculture' has been dropped from the 'Food Security' chapter of class 10th. At the same time, five lessons have been removed from the 11th mathematics book. The text of 'Cold War Era and Non-Aligned Movement' has been removed from the 12th Political Science book. Along with this, an amendment has been made in the 'Government and Administration of the Mughal Empire' from the history book of this class.
