New Delhi: The government has announced new rules for 'Work from Home.' Under this, the employee can work from home for a maximum of one year. Simultaneously, according to the Commerce Ministry, a company can apply it to a maximum of 50 per cent of the employees. In this regard, the Commerce Ministry has issued a notification informing about the new rules. It said that these rules of 'Work from Home' are for Special Economic Zones (SEZ) units. That is, companies located in these sectors can now allow their employees to work from home, according to the new rules.   

As per the report received, the ministry said that the industry had been demanding it for a long time and on this basis, the notification has been issued. The industry had demanded the government to implement a work-from-home policy uniformly for all special economic zones (SEZs). After deliberations, a new Rule 43A of 'Work from Home' has been notified in the Special Economic Zones Rules, 2006. Also, under the government's new rules for Special Economic Zones (SEZs), certain categories of employees will be allowed to work from home. These include employees working in information technology (IT) and other IT-related areas. The Commerce Ministry has made it clear that under this rule, only those employees who are unable to come to work temporarily will be able to work from home.

The Ministry of Commerce has also mentioned in the notification that under the new rule, the Development Commissioner of Special Economic Zones (SEZs) will have the right to allow the unit will not be able to stop its operations due to genuine reasons. Allow 50 percent employees to work from home. However, the number of employees and the reason are required to be recorded in writing.
