New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered immediate notification of the election process for local bodies in Maharashtra. The court asked the State Election Commission to notify the election ceremony within two weeks. Elections should be held soon. The court said that we want that the election should not to be postponed in any way.

Earlier, the Supreme Court in its May 4 order had said that the candidate will not get a reservation in the area for which the notification has already been issued in connection with the local body election elections in Maharashtra. That area will be outside the purview of the OBC reservation. In the wake of the hearing in the Supreme Court in the last hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said that the Backward Classes Commission has prepared the report. Nominations will also start soon in some places, so the hearing should not be postponed.

The same petitioner, the Maharashtra government, said that an 800-page report has been filed by the Backward Classes Reservation Commission. Therefore, on the basis of this, some time should be given to prepare and file the report. The first phase of the same phased elections is from July 13, so there is an urgency over the court's order to get the green signal. In the Supreme Court, Justice AM Khanwilkar said that the nomination has already been accomplished, so what can you do now? Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said that the nomination process is yet to be completed. The State Election Commission also said that the notification for the elections has been issued, but the nomination process for the elections to the Zilla Parishad and Municipal Corporations has not yet started. Subsequently, the court had said that as per the notification which has been issued, the process should be taken forward, but the elections for which the notification has not been issued should be stayed for the time being.
