There is great news for retired railway employees. The Railway Board has planned to recruit retired employees for 25,000 posts in different zones across the country. This step has been taken to meet the shortage of employees in the railways. Under this scheme, retired railway employees will be temporarily reemployed.

Retired employees below 65 years of age can apply

Under this scheme, retired railway employees below the age of 65 years can apply for posts of supervisor, trackman, etc. These recruitments will be done for two years, and if needed, the period of service can also be extended. The responsibility of these recruitments will be on the zonal general managers in all the zones of the railways.

Medical fitness and performance of last 5 years will be important

In the recruitment process, the medical fitness of retired employees and their performance of the last 5 years will be taken into consideration. If a disciplinary case is pending against any employee, he will not get appointment. The Railway Board has clearly stated that the performance rating of the candidates applying will be checked, and in case of any disciplinary case, the job will not be given.

What will be the salary and other facilities?

Retired employees will be given the same salary that they received at the time of retirement, but their basic pension will be reduced. Apart from this, they will also get travel allowances for official tours. However, such employees will not get any additional benefits or salary hikes.

Why are railways recruiting retired employees?

According to media reports, the Railway Board has taken this decision in view of the increasing rail accidents and the problem of decreasing workforce in the country. Especially in the North-Western Railway, retired employees will be recruited for 10,000 posts.
