In the first half of 2024, more than 25 lakh cases of UPI (Unified Payments Interface) fraud have been registered in Delhi. However, if people were more cautious, these cases could have been even more. Due to lack of attention while using UPI, scammers easily cheat people. Especially for the people of Delhi-NCR, Delhi Police has shared some important tips to avoid UPI fraud. By keeping these tips in mind, you can protect yourself from UPI fraud and understand the tricks of scammers.

How to avoid UPI fraud?

If you follow these tips shared by Delhi Police, you can easily avoid UPI fraud. Let's know about these threats and how you can identify them.

1. Investment Fraud

Scammers often run schemes on social media and WhatsApp groups in the name of profit investment returns. These people share screenshots of large amounts, which also contain bank account details. Seeing these, people immediately believe them and invest money. But all this is just a part of a fraud. Before investing in any unknown scheme, definitely check its authenticity.

2. Fake Friends Asking for Money

Scammers create fake social media accounts of your friend or relative and then contact you from that fake profile. They ask you for money by pretending to be in some trouble. Many people fall into this trap because they think that their friend or family member is asking for help. In such a situation, always contact your friend or relative directly and confirm the truth.

3. Fake UPI QR Codes

Many times scammers cheat people by putting fake UPI codes on e-commerce websites or shops. People scan that code and make payment without checking. After this, not only your money is lost, but your financial information also reaches the scammers. So always keep in mind whether the UPI code is correct or not and make payment only from a trusted source.

4. Screen Monitoring Apps

Scammers often install apps on your device that can record your screen. When you make payments via UPI or card, all your information reaches the scammers. So do not click on any unknown app or link and always download trusted apps.

5. Fake Identity Fraud

Many times scammers contact you posing as government officials and create such a trap that you fall prey to their words and get duped. They can also blackmail you by taking your personal details. If someone asks you for money posing as a government official, investigate him immediately and do not share any kind of information.

caution is safety

The best way to avoid UPI fraud is to be cautious. Do not act immediately on any unknown link, app, or payment request. Always check your security and financial information. If you see any suspicious activity, report it immediately.
