The controversy over the minimum age of marriage for girls is intensifying. Meanwhile, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has recently said in a case that no man under the age of 21 can marry, but he will be able to live with him like a couple if he agrees with a woman aged 18 years and above. The high court's decision comes in the context of the May 2018 Supreme Court judgement, which also said that any young couple can live together without marriage.

The high court is hearing a petition filed by a young couple from the Gurdaspur district of Punjab. The couple living in a live-in relationship has increased the demand for security through this petition. Both of them are above the age of 18 years. The youth is 18 years old but under the Hindu Marriage Act, he cannot legally marry till he attains the age of 21 years.

The young couple has since filed a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking protection. He says he is in danger of losing his life on behalf of his family. It's about their relationship. The young couple's lawyer has said in court that they fear that their family members will kill them. Amidst the high court hearing, Justice Harnaresh Singh Gill said that it is the responsibility of the government to protect the freedom and life of every person. The judge has directed the Gurdaspur SSP to take a decision on the request of the young couple and provide them security.
