Patna: Nitish cabinet has expanded for the first time in Bihar on Tuesday. Governor Phagu Chauhan administered the oath of office to 9 MLAs of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and 8 MLAs from JDU quota. One Muslim minister has been appointed from both the parties. The BJP has brought Shahnawaz Hussain from the politics of the centre to Bihar's politics and given the post of minister.

JDU has given the post of minister to Jamaat Khan, who left the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). However, when Nitish formed the government on November 16, no Muslim was made a minister, but now the NDA government has two Muslim ministers. The NDA got 125 seats in the assembly elections held in Bihar last year, but not a single Muslim MLA has been elected.

The JDU fielded 11 Muslim candidates, but none could win. BJP, Hindustan Awam Morcha and VIP Party included in the NDA did not give tickets to any Muslim. This was the reason that during the formation of Nitish's cabinet, no Muslim face could find a place at that time, but both BJP and JDU have given special consideration to the expansion.
