Bihar CM offers Rs 4 lakh ex gratia to 15 lightning strike victims

PATNA: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of Patna expressed his grief over the deaths of 15 people who were killed by lightning strikes in 8 districts of Bihar since Tuesday evening. In response, he announced that a compensation of Rs 4 lakh would be provided to the families of each deceased person. The total number of lightning-related deaths in the state within the past 36 hours has now reached 24.

The fatalities occurred in various districts, with Rohtas reporting five deaths since Tuesday evening, followed by two each in Katihar, Gaya, and Jehanabad. Khagaria, Kaimur, Buxar, and Bhagalpur districts reported one death each.

The Chief Minister's office released a statement urging the public to stay alert and vigilant during inclement weather. They emphasized the importance of following the suggestions provided by the state's disaster management department to protect themselves from lightning strikes and adverse weather conditions.

The Meteorological Department has forecasted heavy rainfall in several areas, including Madhubani, Sitamarhi, and West Champaran districts. In light of thunderstorms and lightning, the Disaster Management Department has cautioned people against going outside during rains.
