The father of the deceased has accused the in-laws of beating her with sticks and strangling her to death. According to the family of the victim, the deceased Soni was married in 2009 to Pintu Yadav, son of Rajo Yadav, a resident of Mahuli village. Since marriage, money was frequently demanded from him in the name of dowry. The victim's family had taken recourse to the panchayat in this regard and had also filed a case against the in-laws. But even after all this, the demand for dowry from the in-laws continued.

He feared something untoward and when he reached the daughter's place, the whole matter was exposed. After which the family complained to the police about the case.
