Sushil Modi, former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, has passed away at the age of 72. Union Minister Ashwini Choubey was emotional as he spoke about the loss. Sushil Modi was known as the backbone of the BJP in Bihar, often called the 'Bhishma Pitamah' of the party in the state. He played a crucial role as a troubleshooter for the BJP, always stepping up to resolve issues whenever the party faced challenges. His diplomatic approach earned him respect from across the political spectrum, including figures like Lalu Yadav and Nitish Kumar.

Sushil Modi's close association with Nitish Kumar was widely acknowledged, drawing attention from top leaders like Prime Minister Modi and Amit Shah, who expressed their sorrow at his demise. Nitish Kumar, along with Tejashwi Yadav and Lalu Yadav, offered their condolences. Sushil Modi had been battling cancer for the past six months and was undergoing treatment at AIIMS.

Earlier this year, Sushil Modi's term as a Rajya Sabha member ended. Despite not being nominated by the BJP again, he graciously congratulated the party's new candidates, Dr. Bhim Singh and Dr. Dharamshila Gupta. His dedication to the party spanned over three decades, serving in various capacities across different houses of the legislature.

Sushil Modi's influence in Bihar politics was significant. His partnership with Nitish Kumar was seen as instrumental in keeping Lalu Yadav's influence at bay for a considerable period. Many believed that had Sushil Modi been appointed Deputy CM, Nitish Kumar might not have left the BJP. Their alliance steered Bihar's governance for an extended period, maintaining a balance of power in the state.
