Patna: There have been many incidents of attacks by liquor smugglers on the police in Bihar. Now a constable of the Excise Department has been drowned in the river by smugglers. The last rites of 23-year-old Deepak Kumar were performed on Wednesday (January 18) at his native village Rasalpur in Bhagalpur. He was thrown in Budhi Gandak by smugglers during a raid in the Muzaffarpur district on Monday night.

According to media reports, the incident took place in the Diara area of Dardha. The Excise Department had received information about illegal liquor being made by the liquor mafia on the banks of the Budhi Gandak river here. On this information, the excise department team went to conduct a raid at night. The information was found to be correct and the excise department (Excise) team arrested the liquor mafia from the spot. The accused were being brought by boat. During this, they clashed with the officials and the smugglers pushed Deepak into the river.

Media reports quoted an eyewitness as saying that the smugglers dragged Deepak away and threw him into the river. Excise Department Superintendent Sanjay Kumar Rai has informed that during the raid, Deepak had caught two smugglers. However, they pulled Deepak and took him on a small boat. After the scuffle, he was thrown into the river. After falling into the river, Deepak got trapped in a strong flow and┬аlost his life. Deepak was accompanied by 19 other members of the team during the raid. Taking advantage of the stampede that took place after throwing Deepak into the river, the smugglers who were detained escaped. By the time fellow servicepeople pulled Deepak out of the river, he was dead.

The video of this incident is also becoming increasingly viral on social media. In the viral video, fellow officials are heard crying as Deepak┬аis being taken out of the river. In this video, the soldiers are also talking about Deepak's death. At around 12:30 am, Deepak was thrown into the river. His body was recovered around 3 am. After this incident, the Excise Department called for the police force on the spot. The police conducted a post-mortem on the body. At the same time, fellow soldiers are furious with Deepak's death. They are demanding compensation from the government for Deepak's family. Deepak's brother Prashant has expressed apprehension of a conspiracy behind the incident.
