BHOPAL: The Bina Refinery project is set to bring about a significant impact as it embarks on its journey towards completion. Scheduled for inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 14, the Petro Chemical Complex located at Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) Bina Refinery promises to be a game-changer. Over the course of five years, during the construction phase alone, this project is expected to generate a staggering 15,000 employment opportunities.

This exciting development was unveiled during a press conference held on Tuesday, with Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry Secretary, Pankaj Jain, and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd Chairman and Managing Director, G. Krishnakumar, sharing the noteworthy details. Krishnakumar expressed, "The Rs 49,000 crore investment in the Ethylene Cracker Project at Bina signifies BPCL's commitment to expanding its energy portfolio and establishing itself as a prominent player in the government's mission to position the country as a globally competitive and favored manufacturing hub in the petrochemical space."

The petrochemical feedstock generated by this project is poised to find applications in an array of industries, including films, food packaging, automotive components, medical equipment, bubble wrap, stretch wrap, household items, raffia bags, water tanks, storage containers, toys, and furniture, among others. The successful completion of this endeavor is expected to revolutionize industrial development in the state of Madhya Pradesh and the Bundelkhand region. Furthermore, it is anticipated to attract substantial investments from downstream industries that rely on BPCL's petrochemical products.

The scope of this project encompasses the construction of a 1.2 Million Metric Tons Per Annum (MMTPA) Ethylene cracker complex, the establishment of downstream ethylene and propylene-based petrochemical plants, and the expansion of Bina Refinery's capacity from 7.8 MMTPA to 11 MMTPA. To maximize the use of captive feedstock, which includes Naptha, LPG, Kerosene, and more, the Ethylene cracker complex will be seamlessly integrated with the Bina refinery.

Pankaj Jain emphasized that this complex project is geared towards fulfilling the ever-growing demand for petrochemicals. He also acknowledged the unwavering support of the Madhya Pradesh government for this transformative initiative. In response to a query, he mentioned that the specific formula for allocating jobs within Madhya Pradesh was still in the process of being determined.
