CHENNAI: On Friday, the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu plans to commemorate former Chief Minister and Dravidian stalwart M Karunanidhi's 98th birthday in a big way in the state.

On Friday morning, his son and Chief Minister M K Stalin will lead the state's celebrations by paying floral tributes to the late leader's 16-foot bronze monument constructed on the premises of the multi-superspecialty government hospital at Omandurar Government Estate here.

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu unveiled the life-size statue on May 28.

The ceremony at Omandurar Government Estate will be attended by state ministers, MPs, legislators, and government employees.

On April 26, Stalin notified the Tamil Nadu Assembly that Karunanidhi's birth anniversary, which falls on June 3, would be commemorated as a government function in the state, and that his statue will be unveiled at the Omandurar Government Estate.

The DMK has declared that seminars on the "Dravidian model" will be held across the state tomorrow to instil Dravidian principles in the youth and to emphasise Stalin's achievements during his one-year reign. Anti-national elements attempting to disturb peace and harmony in the state were also identified and countered at the sessions.
