Drug exports have declined due to frequent inspections of Indian pharma companies' plants by US drug regulator USFDA. This is the situation when trade opportunities between the US and China have increased business opportunities for the Indian pharma industry. GV Prasad, chairman of the National Committee for the Pharma Sector at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), said on Monday that frequent inspections had an impact on Indian pharmaceutical exports. This is a major reason for the slowdown in drug exports. Prasad is also the Vice Chairman and MD of Doctor Reddy's Laboratories.

Prasad said that the permission given to many Indian pharmaceutical companies has been suspended and many have received warning letters. This has influenced the launch and development of new products. He said that everyone has to raise their level of quality, system, discipline, integration of data. All these things are important for the industry.

Western countries' changed strategy- China has been a major source for active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), ingredients and chemicals used in pharmaceutical manufacturing for the global pharmaceutical industry.  However, the trade war between the US and China has forced Western countries to rethink their dependence on Asian countries. Therefore, its effect on drug charges can be seen.

Need to increase investment on health - According to Prasad, the government needs to invest more on primary health. The drug is cheaper in India than other countries. In this case, the purchasing power of the public is a big issue, because there is no national health care program taking place in the country.
