Kochi: In a shocking revelation, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state unit chief K. Surendran accused CM Pinarayi Vijayan of being the biggest beneficiary of the gold smuggling case in Kerala. Surendran said, " Vijayan and his office were behind the hawala and reverse hawala business. CM not only assisted this business but also became the biggest beneficiary of this business. ”

This case was revealed on July 5, when PR Sarith, a former United Arab Emirates (UAE) consulate employee, and another former employee of the embassy, Swapna Suresh, were arrested. Both had worked in the IT department's Space Park and had also worked closely with Vijayan's top aide.

The situation worsened for Vijayan when the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested his secretary and senior IAS officer M. Shivshankar. He has been in judicial custody since October 29. Swapna Suresh has said that Shivshankar was his mentor and he was the one who got him a job in IT Space Park. While Swapna has not even passed 10th standard, she was getting a thick salary in IT Space Park.
