BANGALORE: student organizations, Muslim organizations, and activists on Tuesday protested the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) holding training camps for pupils in government residential schools in Karnataka, alleging that the ruling BJP government was permitting it.

"The ruling BJP in Karnataka is allowing the running of RSS camps in the Morarji Desai Residential Education institutes, which should be promptly stopped," said Vasudeva Reddy, State Secretary of the Student Federation of India (SFI). "The SFI would start a state-wide movement if the RSS's organization of camps is not stopped, and the camp is now taking place in north Karnataka's Bidar and Kolar's Mulbagal taluk." he said.

"Students can attend camps run by the RSS, a so-called communal force. Kota Srinivas Poojari, the minister for social welfare development, has personally suggested organizing camps for students "said Vasudeva Reddy.

"This is a component of the BJP's saffronization of education. The BJP is coming up with the notion that communalism is a continuation of the hijab and concerns school curriculum reform. The BJP, which is in power, is attempting to transfer control of educational institutions to the RSS. We denounce it, "He said.

"These RSS camps ought to be dismantled right away. Weapons are being utilised and physical training is being provided in those camps. RSS engages in antisocial behaviour. What kind of an influence these camps would have on impressionable minds is a cause for concern "said Vasudeva Reddy. According to a state government notification, permission has been granted to host the Prashikshan Shivir (training camps), which are being conducted to teach young men Yogasana, personality development, and nationalism.

The Social Welfare Development Minister has granted approval.

Prerana Pratisthan has been granted permission to run a one-week programme in the residential hostel in the Kolar district. A similar camp has also been authorised by the government through the Uttara Kannada district's Akshaya Seva Pratishthana. According to sources, another camp is planned for north Karnataka.
