Bangalore: Historically for the first time, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won the election for the post of Mayor of Mysore city in Karnataka. With this, Sunanda Palanetra of BJP has become the new mayor of the city. BJP's Sunanda got 26 votes in the 65-member Mysore City Corporation (MCC). It is followed by 19 members of Congress and 17 of JDS.

Mysore has five independents and one member of the BSP. According to the report, till the last minute, there was speculation that the JD(S) and the Congress would retain their alliance in the MCC. For this equation, Congress had demanded the Mayor's post for six months, while the JD(S) was to be given this post for the remaining two years. Due to this, the political atmosphere went in the court of BJP, and Sunanda Palanetra won this time since missing the mayor last time.
