BJP-CPI (M) clash: Rajnath Singh talks to Tripura Police chief; Sitaram Yechury to address media today

Bharatiya Janata Party and Left front party workers got into a spat across Tripura in the last two days. This comes after BJP registered an unprecedented victory in state assembly election in Tripura which was ruled by the leftist CPM government led by Manik Sarkar for the past 25 years.

Following the incident, CPM workers in Kolkata will march from venue of the state conference to be held today to a Lenin statue in the city. Sitaram Yechury will address a press conference at 2:30 PM today.

Reportedly, BJP workers have attacked CPM offices in Agartala and demolished a Lenin statue in Belonia.

According to the eye-witnesses, the bulldozers were brought allegedly by BJP workers mowed down a statue of Lenin in Belonia town in South Tripura.

The police have termed the incident ‘post-poll’ violence and have arrested three persons in this regard. They informed about receiving four violence-related complaints from various parts of Tripura.

“The cases include arson at two CPI(M) offices at Sidhai area in West Tripura district, 25 km from Agartala, and clashes between CPI(M) and BJP supporters at Kadamtala in North Tripura district,” informed Superintendent of Police Pradip De.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh has talked to the governor and Tripura police chief in this regard, asking them to handle the situation appropriately until a new government is in place.

CPI (M), on its Twitter handle shared pictures of the incident accusing BJP and IPFT of misusing their power to ‘bully and intimidate’.
