PUDUCHERRY: To resolve the thorny issue between the saffron party and All India NR Congress, Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Fisheries L. Murugan is scheduled to meet with Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangasamy on Friday.

Although BJP and AINRC are allies in Puducherry, there have been tensions between the two coalition members ever since Rangasamy assumed the position of territory government's chief minister. Saminathan, head of the BJP's Puducherry unit, stated that they anticipate a fruitful meeting between the two leaders.

According to BJP sources, the local BJP unit plans to complain to the national leadership if the conference does not produce a favourable outcome.

The BJP's Puducherry Unit is upset that Rangasamy hasn't given them any new jobs and that the Chief Minister has purposefully left vacant the Chairman positions in corporations and other public sector undertakings. According to the BJP, the Chief Minister purposefully failed to fill the positions in order to refute the leadership's accusations.

It should be mentioned that the Chief Minister recently met with the BJP's Puducherry unit president Saminathan and Home Minister and senior BJP leader A. Namassivayam, who asked him to fill the open Chairmen and other related jobs. The Chief Minister, however, refused to give in to their requests and claimed that the firms and mills were in financial trouble and that it would not be profitable to open them just for the purpose of doing so. It is understood that the Chief Minister informed the leaders that it was not possible to elect a new chairman for PSUs that were incurring losses.

According to BJP sources, Rangasamy has assured the leaders that, given the potential that the central government is giving these businesses additional funding, he won't have any trouble picking a new chairman for the PSU.

The state administration, particularly the Chief Minister, came under fire from BJP MLA Kalyanasundaram during the previous Assembly session for anomalies in the approval of new distilleries. This was perceived as a direct confrontation between the BJP and the Chief Minister.

The arrival of Murugan, who formerly served as the BJP's state president in the neighbouring Tamil Nadu and has a strong personal bond with Chief Minister Rangasamy, according to party sources, could finally break the ice.
