BANGALORE: On Wednesday, posters for "PayCM" bearing the image of Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai were displayed in some areas of the city. They resembled Paytm, an online wallet. The QR code in the midst of the image of Bommai reads, "40% accepted here."

The revelation came amid an intense campaign by Congress against the state government, which it accused of corruption in the awarding of public contracts and in government hiring.

The government vehemently refuted allegations of bribery made by the contractors' body, which claimed that contractors had to pay a 40% commission to win public works contracts.

These posters in public places were taken down shortly after the issue was brought to the attention of the authorities. The BJP claimed the Congress was responsible for this.

Without a question, the Congress is to blame. "BJP state media cell in charge Karunakara Khasle said in a news briefing that Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has already ordered an investigation and booked cases against individuals involved in this mischief.

He continued by saying that the BJP state unit had also urged the CM to identify individuals responsible for this atrocity. The Congress was dared by Khasle to provide evidence of any corruption if they had any, or else apologise to the government.

According to sources in Congress who want to remain anonymous, some party workers may be responsible for the "poster campaign."
