Itanagar: In a significant turn of events, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Pawan Kumar Sain announced on Saturday that 10 BJP candidates have clinched victory unopposed as the nomination withdrawal period came to a close. The electoral battleground witnessed a scenario where only one candidate had filed nomination papers in six assembly constituencies, paving the way for their uncontested victory. Similarly, in four other constituencies, the withdrawal of rival candidates left the BJP nominees unchallenged.

Among the notable winners are Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu and his deputy Chowna Mein, both securing their seats without contest. Pema Khandu emerged as the sole candidate for the Mukto assembly constituency, while Deputy CM Chowna Mein secured victory in the Chowkham seat after his lone rival from the Congress, Bayamso Kri, withdrew his nomination on the final day.

In a statement, CEO Pawan Sain highlighted the single nomination filings in six constituencies and the withdrawal of opposition candidates in four others, solidifying the BJP's dominance in the electoral landscape. The list of victorious BJP candidates includes prominent figures such as Ratu Techi, Jikke Tako, Nyato Dukam, Mutchu Mithi, Hage Appa, Techi Kaso, Dongru Siongju, and Smt Dasanglu Pul, alongside Pema Khandu and Chowna Mein.

Despite the BJP securing 10 uncontested seats, the number falls short of the 11 seats won unopposed by the Congress in 2014. Arunachal Pradesh has witnessed a history of unopposed victories, with candidates winning without contest in previous elections.

Expressing delight over the unopposed victories, CM Pema Khandu attributed the success to PM Modi's leadership and the state government's development initiatives. He emphasized the people's trust in the BJP's commitment to comprehensive state development.

Echoing Khandu's sentiments, Assam Minister Ashok Singhal expressed confidence in the BJP's prospects in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and the state assembly polls. Singhal envisioned a landslide victory for BJP candidates, setting the stage for a historic achievement of winning all 60 assembly seats.

Earlier reports indicated that six BJP candidates were poised to win unopposed after no other candidates filed nominations, underscoring the BJP's stronghold in Arunachal Pradesh. The state, with 60 assembly seats and 2 Lok Sabha constituencies, is set for polling on April 19.

With BJP fielding candidates in all 60 assembly constituencies and Congress contesting 34 seats, the electoral landscape is primed for a fierce battle. Recent political developments, including defections and party mergers, have bolstered BJP's position, indicating a formidable electoral campaign ahead.
