After high-octane discussions, Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday fielded 28-year-old Tejasvi Surya from prestigious Bangalore South Lok Sabha seat. Mr. Surya was chosen over Tejaswini Ananth Kumar, the wife of late BJP leader Ananth Kumar who contested from Bangalore South numerous times. Mr. Surya (28), considered a fiery orator, is a practicing lawyer at the Karnataka High Court. He is general secretary of the state Yuva Morcha and a part of the national social media team.

After a late night meeting on Monday, the ruling party ended all speculation by naming Tejasvi Surya, 28, for the constituency, which votes on April 18 in the national election. Tejasvi Surya's reaction on Twitter was exuberant.

"OMG OMG! I can't believe this. PM of world's largest democracy and President of a largest political party have reposed faith in a 28-year-old guy to represent them in a constituency as prestigious a Bangalore South. ...This can happen only in my BJP. Only in #NewIndia of @narendramodi," tweeted Tejasvi Surya.

Some reports had suggested the BJP delayed an announcement on this seat as it was debating whether to field Ananth Kumar's wife Tejaswini Ananth Kumar, recommended by Karnataka BJP chief BS Yeddyurappa. While not much light was shed on the choice of Mr. Surya over Ms. Kumar, it all started on Saturday during a Central Election Committee (CEC) meet in New Delhi, when Mr. Surya’s name came up and was discussed. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s name was doing rounds as a candidate from the seat.
