Bangalore: BJP has got a big success as soon as Union Home Minister Amit Shah reaches Karnataka. In fact, senior leader of Janata Dal (Secular) and current Speaker of Karnataka Legislative Council Basavaraj Horati has joined BJP on Tuesday. Horati has joined the BJP in the presence of Amit Shah, CM Basavaraj Bommai, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi and other senior party leaders in Bengaluru.

Before the proposed assembly elections in 2023, Janata Dal's strongman Basavaraj Horati joining the BJP is a big sign. This can not only give electoral advantage to the BJP, but can also give an edge to the BJP in the Rajya Sabha. Because it previously took a lot of effort to get a majority to help pass controversial bills without relying on others. The BJP needs numbers in the Rajya Sabha as it still does not have a majority and important anti-conversion bills, which have been passed in the Lok Sabha, are stuck in the council.

With the departure of Basavaraj Horati, the existence of Janata Dal is under threat as at least six MLAs are feared to leave the party. In doing so, the BJP would benefit from vote-sharing in the old Mysore region or a shift of support towards the organisation, as was seen in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
