Kolkata: After the communal violence that broke out in Mominpur, West Bengal, the political mercury has risen. Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Suvendu Adhikari has claimed that the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) wants to remove Hindus from some areas. He has also accused the state's CM Mamata Banerjee of doing politics of intimidation. On Sunday, there was a ruckus in Mominpur over a poster, which later turned into violence.
Speaking to the media, Suvendu Adhikari said, "TMC wants to remove Hindus from Mominpur, Iqbalpur and Khidirpur. This is Mamata Banerjee's vote bank politics. Hindu votes are going towards the BJP and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is getting minority votes by running threats and communal campaigns.'' Earlier, the official had written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Governor L A Ganesan. In this, he demanded immediate deployment of central forces in the area. He wrote, "Hindu community got attacked on the evening of Lakshmi Puja in Kolkata's Khidirpur Mominpur area. He had said that in this violence, anti-social elements vandalised many shops and vehicles of Hindus.''
BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari had written, "This attack is similar to the attack in the Uluberia area of Howrah district in June. During that time, the violence spread across Bengal and especially in Nadia and Murshidabad districts.'' On Wednesday, the Calcutta High Court asked the West Bengal Police to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the Mominpur violence. After the investigation, the SIT will have to submit the report to the court.
