Kolkata: The BJP has attacked the Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal over the violence at Mayurbhanj in Mominpur, Kolkata. BJP MP Suvendu Adhikari has written a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah demanding the deployment of central security forces in the state. At the same time, now former Rajya Sabha MP and BJP leader Swapan Dasgupta has written a letter to PM Narendra Modi in this regard.

Swapan Dasgupta has written in his letter that minority Hindus are being targeted in Bengal. PM Modi should intervene in this regard. Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar, who was on his way to Mominpur today, has been detained. After the violence broke out in Mominpur, the police imposed Section 144 there and a large number of police forces have been deployed. At night, a mob of Muslims surrounded the police station and bombed it, in which police officers were also injured.

Swapan Dasgupta tweeted, "Mob violence targeting businesses and property of Hindu minorities in Mominpur-Ekbalpur area of Kolkata are worrisome. It stems from perverse empowerment, born out of the belief that a community is above the norms of law and civic responsibility. I have written to PM Modi drawing his attention to this ugly claim of panic and communal identity of vulnerable Hindu communities in West Bengal. It is being fuelled entirely according to the vote bank of the Mamata government.''
