In a swift legal move, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has approached the Supreme Court challenging the Tamil Nadu government's alleged directive preventing the live telecast of the 'Pran Pratishtha' ceremony for Lord Ram in Ayodhya. The plea, filed by Advocate G Balaji on behalf of Vinoj P Selvam, secretary of the Tamil Nadu BJP, urgently seeks judicial intervention.
The petition contends that the DMK-led state government has imposed a ban on live telecasts of the auspicious 'Pran Pratishtha' event in temples across Tamil Nadu. The government has reportedly extended the prohibition to include various religious activities such as poojas, Archana, Annadanam (charitable feeding), and bhajans on this significant occasion. The plea argues that such actions violate fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution.
Expressing concern over a potential law and order issue and constitutional machinery failure, the petitioner implores the court for immediate judicial intervention. The petition requests the Chief Justice or any other relevant court to hear the matter promptly for the sake of justice.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, on Sunday, accused the Tamil Nadu government of instructing the State Police to deny permission for the live broadcast of the Pran Pratishtha ceremony at Ayodhya's Ram temple on January 22. Sitharaman asserted that the government is threatening police officials and prohibiting the telecast even of events she attended in Kanchipuram.
However, the state government strongly refutes these claims, with PK Sekar Babu, Minister of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments, condemning the spread of false information. He clarified that there are no restrictions on devotees' freedom to conduct religious activities in the name of Lord Ram in Tamil Nadu temples.
The dispute escalated when Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai posted an image claiming instructions from the ADGP (Law and Order) to obstruct the Pran Pratishtha celebration statewide. Annamalai accused the DMK government of inefficiency, corruption, and dishonesty, challenging them to disprove the provided instructions.
The 'Pran Pratishtha' ceremony for Shri Ram Lalla at Ayodhya Temple is scheduled for Sunday at 12:30 pm, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, saints, and distinguished guests expected to grace the historic ritual. Vedic rituals for the ceremony commenced on January 16, a week prior to the main event.
