New Delhi: The political mercury on the Pegasus espionage scandal continues to rise. Meanwhile, clashes between the Parliamentary Standing Committee of Information and Technology (IT) have escalated. The committee is headed by Shashi Tharoor and BJP MPs have opened a front against him. BJP MPs have written to the Lok Sabha Speaker regarding the alleged violation of the secrecy of the committee's proceedings. He has shown his 'distrust' of Shashi Tharoor's continued position and also demanded his removal.
Meanwhile, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has demanded action against officials of three ministries who did not attend the panel meeting on July 28. Shashi Tharoor has said that his refusal to attend the meeting at the main time amounts to contempt of the House. The officials had informed the panel secretariat minutes before the meeting. According to reports, no official from the three Central Ministries appeared before the committee on July 28.
The three ministries had said that their officers were busy with other work. The meeting was attended by 11 MPs from BJP and allies, but they did not attend. Even after they were sitting, the quorum could not be completed. Meanwhile, party MPs led by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey boycotted the meeting. Dubey said the agenda should be set with the consent of the committee members, but Shashi Tharoor himself sets the agenda. Also, the agenda members should get in advance, but not given.
