Shimla: Ahead of the parliamentary elections 2024, The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed, five-time MLA Rajeev Bindal as president of the Himachal Pradesh unit of the party.

"BJP National President Honourable Shri JP Nadda has appointed Dr. Rajeev Bindal as State President of Himachal Pradesh. This appointment comes into immediate effect," Arun Singh, National General Secretary, BJP, said in a letter on April 23.

This comes after Suresh Kashyap, the BJP's chief in Himachal Pradesh, submitted his resignation to JP Nadda, the party's national president, claiming personal reasons. 

Bindal, a native of Solan, previously served as the leader of the BJP state committee.
In addition, the party appointed Siddharthan and Pawan Rana Mahamantri to the positions of organisational general secretaries in the state units of Himachal Pradesh and Delhi, respectively.

The Congress won 40 seats in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections last year, handing the BJP a loss.
Following the victory of the party last year, senior Congress leader Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu took the oath to serve as the 15th Chief Minister of the hill state.

Sukhu (58), a steadfast supporter of the Gandhis, is a four-time MLA and a former leader of the state's Congress. 
Rajeev Bindal, was born in the year 1955 in Solan district. Bindal entered politics for the first time in 1995 by contesting the election of Solan Municipal Council. For the first time in the year 2000, he contested the assembly election from Solan and succeded. In the years 2003 and 2007, he registered straight  wins and on January 9, 2008 became the health minister in the BJP government.
