New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has welcomed the Election Commission's decision to ban the victory procession. BJP National President J P Nadda has welcomed the Election Commission's decision to ban the counting of votes for the elections in five states or beyond.

Nadda tweeted, "I welcome the election commission of India's decision to ban celebrations and processions of electoral victory. I have directed all the state units of the BJP to strictly follow this decision. All BJP workers are working hard to help the needy in this hour of crisis". Official sources said that the Election Commission has taken this decision to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection.

Assembly elections have been held in Assam, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Kerala, and Puducherry. Elections in four states are over. But the last and eighth phase of elections in Bengal is yet to be held. Polling will be held here on April 29 and counting of votes will take place on May 2. Earlier, the Election Commission has banned victory processions on or after counting votes.
