Kochi: Senior Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor on Friday (January 13) made a lofty claim that it would be "impossible" for the BJP to repeat its 2019 election victory in 2024. Shashi Tharoor said that while the BJP may lose several states, it is not impossible to lose power at the Center as well.

The Congress MP further pointed out how brilliantly the BJP had performed in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and at that time it had every seat in Haryana, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and even Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra except one seat each. And had 18 seats in Bengal, but it is impossible to repeat all those results now and it is entirely possible to fall below a majority in 2024. Shashi Tharoor further said that after the Pulwama attacks and the Balakot strike, the BJP had a strong last-minute advantage in the 2019 election which would not be repeated in 2024.

Tharoor further said that BJP is sure to lose 50 seats and the opposition will also gain a lot this time. Tharoor was asked whether the opposition parties, which would not allow the BJP to get a majority, would remain united. On this question, the Congress leader gave an evasive answer and said that it is impossible to answer it.
