Israeli troops kill two Palestinians and claim their troops were attacked

West Bank: Two Palestinians were killed by Israeli shelling during an early morning military raid in the occupied West Bank, and a third from wounds sustained during a separate Israeli raid nearly two weeks ago, according to Palestinian medical officials.

The army claimed that after gunmen shot at a passing vehicle, its troops opened fire in Jaba village. According to him, the jawans later recovered an M-16 rifle from the car.

The bloodshed brought the total number of Palestinians killed in combat with Israeli forces to 11, and bloody fighting in the region since 2022 shows no signs of abating in the coming year.

The men were identified by the Palestinian Ministry of Health as 24-year-old Ezzeddin Hamamrah and 23-year-old Amjad Khaleleh. To the south of Jenin is Jabba, a town in the northern West Bank that has seen some of the bloodiest fighting in the last few years of the conflict.

According to the health ministry, 19-year-old Samir al-Jabri died of wounds received on 2 January during fighting west of Jenin.

When Israeli troops stormed a village to destroy the homes of two Palestinian gunmen who killed an Israeli soldier in a firefight in September, al-Jabari was hurt. On that particular day, clashes between Palestinians and Israeli forces resulted in the deaths of two people, one of whom was the gunman.

Following several deadly Palestinian attacks against Israelis last spring, Israel increased its military raids. According to Israel, the aim of the operation is to destroy terrorist networks and prevent further attacks. According to Israel, most of those killed were terrorists. However, stone-throwing Palestinians, youths protesting the invasion, and unrelated individuals have also been killed. Israeli statistics show that a total of 31 people were killed in Palestinian attacks last year.
