Imphal: A political crisis has been going on in Manipur for the last few days. The BJP-led N. Biren Singh government has secured a trust vote in the assembly. The state government won the trust vote with a margin of 28–16. After the marathon debate in the one-day session of the assembly, the CM moved the motion of confidence. 8 Congress MLAs were not present in the assembly proceedings. After which gaining the trust of was just a formality.

After the trust, the dignity of the house was broken when the Congress MLAs protested and uprooted the chairs in the House. The Congress has 24 MLAs in the 60-member assembly. After the resignation of 3 MLAs and 4 MLAs disqualified under the anti-defection law, there are now 53 MLAs left in the Assembly, with BJP and Congress issuing a whip to their MLAs to stay in the Assembly.

Former Chief Minister of Manipur and Leader of the Opposition, Ibobi Singh, has termed the gaining of the government's trust as a murder of democracy. Talking to reporters, he said that the Assembly Speaker's denial of permission to vote is unfair. He said that since the government came to power, permission has been given to broadcast the proceedings of the Legislative Assembly. However, this was not done today. Journalists were also not allowed to come with the camera and phone. On Monday, a special session of the assembly has been called on the motion of no confidence in the Congress.
