New Delhi: A month-long membership drive of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) begins across the country from July 6. In the meantime, the party's booth level workers in Delhi have been targeted to add at least 14 lakh new members. The party has deployed five workers at every polling booth as 'Punch God' who will work to connect the party and the voters living in that area.

Talking to reporters in New Delhi, BJP President Manoj Tiwari said, the membership drive in Delhi will be different from other states where 20 per cent new members are targeted to be linked with the party. Tiwari said the membership drive will be of a normal nature with a target of adding more than 14 lakh new members to more than 20 per cent new members from other states. At present, the BJP has about 27 lakh members in Delhi.

Harsh Malhotra, co-charge of membership drive in Delhi, said that there are 13,816 polling booths in Delhi and about 58,000 booth level workers. He said, "Even if every punch God adds 50 new members during the membership campaign, we will be able to achieve this target easily."
