According to tracking, Black Adam will give Dwayne Johnson the greatest box office debut of his career, outside of the main Fast & Furious franchise. The domestic opening for the New Line/Warner Bros. film is expected to be at least $70 million and as much as $75 million for the weekend of October 21–23. Tracking-accessible sources claim that the surveys demonstrate Black Adam's power to be comparable to Sony's origin film Venom, which debuted with $80 million in early October 2018.

Black Adam's opening could be less than Venom's because tracking and box office analysts are being more cautious because the industry is still in pandemic recovery mode. Johnson has never before starred in a live-action superhero film before. The Justice Society of America, a group of heroes that have never appeared in a DC movie before, will be included in Black Adam, which reunites Johnson with his Jungle Cruise director Jaume Collet-Serra. That includes Dr. Fate, Cyclone, Atom Smasher, and Hawkman (Aldis Hodge, Quintessa Swindell, and (Pierce Brosnan). Johnson performs the role of Black Adam, an antihero with ancient power.

In late July, Johnson made a rare visit to Comic-Con to promote Black Adam, drawing cheers from attendees in Hall H. More recently, Johnson made a personal appearance at SoFi Stadium to unveil a brand-new Black Adam trailer during the Los Angeles Rams-Buffalo Bills game that marked the start of the 2022 NFL regular season. The new trailer for the DC movie was also shown during Thursday Night Football on NBC.

Black Adam aims to give the box office the confidence boost it needs following a concerning downturn in August and September following a summer surge. Movies about superheroes in particular have done well during the pandemic. Johnson's final movie appearance was this summer's DC League of Super-Pets, which he voiced.
