Bollywood superstar Salman Khan was on Friday sentenced to five years in top-security prison after a court in Jodhpur found guilty to him for killing two rare blackbucks, putting an end, at least for now, to a legal battle that continued for 20 years.

After spending a full night in Jodhpur Central jail, his bail plea will be heard. His plea will take place today in Jodhpur Session Court.

If the bail does not come through, he will have to stay in jail for at least three more days as the weekend follows.

This is the fourth time Salman was sent to Jodhpur jail. Earlier, he spent 18 days in the jail at different times in 1998, 2006 and 2007 - all in poaching cases. Every time, he was set free on bail.

The actor is prime accused of hunting down two blackbucks in Kankani village near Jodhpur on the intervening night of October 1 and 2, 1998.

Bollywood trade analyst Komal Nahta said that if Salman doesn't obtain bail, it'll be a massive loss of Rs 800 crore.

"There are only a few superstars who guarantee not just success, but big success" he said.

"The immediate concern is 'Race 3', being filmed for Rs 125 crore. Only four or five days of shoot is left." The film is lined up for an Eid release on June 14.

His other big venture this year was 'Bharat', a Rs 200-crore film, reportedly Salman's most costly home production. The screening was scheduled for June.
