The outbreak of black fungus is being seen all over the country in the middle of the corona virus epidemic. Meanwhile, Medical Superintendent of Chest Diseases (CD) Hospital in Jammu and Kashmir, Dr. Naveed Nazir Shah on Sunday again assured people that there is no concern about black fungus as it is neither a new disease nor an infectious, just a precautionary measure.
Dr. Naveed said that people have been told the need to avoid taking medicines themselves, identify high risk patients and keep them under blood sugar control. He has said, "Mucormycosis is not a new disease nor is it contagious. We only need to avoid a drug like steroids, identify high-risk patients and keep blood sugar under control. He said that in November 2020, a case of mucremyosis was successfully operated upon and another suspected case was admitted with him. "Both were suffering from diabetes after being infected with covid," he said.
A 40-year-old man who recovered from covid infection lost his life due to black fungus in the Government Medical College (GMC) on Thursday, a report in the Union Territory on Friday said. Meanwhile, Doctors Association Kashmir (Dak) on Saturday warned against the use of steroids in corona virus patients as it could lead to deadly black fungus infections. Dr. Nisar ul Hasan, Chairman and Influenza Expert, Postal said, "Indiscriminate use of steroids helps in spreading deadly black fungus infections, which have become epidemics in many states of the country."
