New Delhi: The Central Investigating Agency CBI today approached the Supreme court against the house arrest of four TMC leaders in the Narada sting case in West Bengal. the CBI has challenged the Calcutta High Court's verdict in which the HC ordered the four leaders to remain under house arrest. CBI has sought postponement of today's hearing in the Calcutta High Court.
The Kolkata High Court in its judgement had ordered the four leaders of the TMC to remain under house arrest. The verdict was given by a bench of Acting Chief Justice of Kolkata High Court Rajesh Bindal and Justice Arijit Banerjee. However, there was no consensus in the bench on the decision. The Kolkata High Court had granted bail to two TMC ministers Subrata Mukherjee and Farhad Hakim and TMC MLA Madan Mitra and former Kolkata Mayor Shoban Chatterjee. The High Court in its order said that interim bail was granted but all four will remain under house arrest.
The CBI claimed to have found vital evidence when he filed a protest against the TMC leaders and initiated an inquiry. The CBI had arrested TMC leaders. This was followed by ruckus and stone pelting outside the CBI office. TMC activists accused of pelting stones. After the arrest, CM Mamata Banerjee had also challenged the CBI to arrest and show them if they had the courage.
