Blast in illegal factory in Meerut, two including Congress leader died

Meerut: A fireworks factory exploded in an LPG cylinder in Sardhana area of Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, killing a local Congress leader Aseem Khan and another man, while seven others were injured in the accident. The impact of the blast was so severe that the house of congress unit head where the factory was running illegally, got destroyed. Many houses and shops in the vicinity were also damaged in this accident.

Police and fire brigades have been deployed for rescue operations. 7 people, including two children, were taken out of the rubble and sent to the hospital. It is being feared that two more people are buried under the debris. The bodies have been sent for postmortem. Police officer RP Singh said, ' In prima facie it seems that the explosion occurred after the fire in the gas cylinder. Forensic team is also investigating to find out the reason behind the blast.

The Congress city president of Sardhana and another person died in the blast. It is being reported that at least 10 other houses have been damaged. He further explained, 'An investigation team has been formed in this case to find out what caused the accident.'
