Adar Poonawalla, the Chief Executive Officer of Serum Institute of India, has stated that Oxford's coronavirus vaccine, dubbed Covishield in India, could be ready for roll-out as early as December if clinical trials succeed.  The Serum Institute of India can explore an emergency license for the "Covishield" coronavirus vaccine in India based on the trials conducted by Oxford-AstraZeneca.

Speaking about the chances of the coronavirus vaccine being available for use by the end of 2020, the CEO has said that the Oxford-AstraZeneca is on the verge of completion and if they share their data and assure safety, he will explore emergency license options based on UK trials. When asked about the cost of the vaccine, Poonawalla said that his firm is in a conversation with the government and assured affordable rates.

Meanwhile, the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) had last week authorized a start again of clinical trials of the Oxford vaccine in the USA after the trials resumed in the UK, South Africa, Brazil, Japan, and India. It may be noted that on 6th September, a standard review process triggered a voluntary pause to vaccination across all global trials to allow a review of safety data by an independent committee.
