INDORE:  A 31-year-old woman and her 6-year-old son drowned while 13 members of a family were rescued when a boat in which they were circumambulating Omkareshwar temple capsized in the Narmada river on Thursday night.

A family from Surat had arrived in Khandwa, according to Khandwa SP Vivek Singh, to see the Omkareshwar temple. They sat aboard a boat to circle the temple in the evening after visiting it. The boat abruptly capsized during this, and the passengers began to drown. The mother and son pair could not be saved, but the locals and other boatmen managed to save them.

Darshana and her son Lakshya's bodies were removed and transported to the Khandwa district hospital for the postmortem examination.

According to Mandhata police officers, the boat was damaged as a result of a sudden rise in water levels caused by the energy department releasing water from a turbine.

Senior police officers and government representatives hastened to the scene. Initial investigation revealed that the boat ferrying people was operating illegally. "Vijay, the boat's operator, was charged with violating Section 304. (culpable homicide not amounting to murder). He is running away "SP Vivek Singh said.
