Veteran Bollywood actor Junior Mehmood, real name Naeem Sayyed, recognized for his roles in classic Bollywood hits like "Caravan," "Haathi Mere Saathi," and "Mera Naam Joker," passed away at the age of 68 due to a battle with stomach cancer. His son, Hasnain Sayyed, confirmed.
"My father passed away at 2.00 am after fighting stomach cancer. He was in critical condition for the last 17 days. He had lost 35-40 kgs in a month," said Hasnain, Junior Mehmood's younger son.
Survived by his wife and two sons, Sayyed's burial is set to take place at the Santacruz cemetery today, as per close friend Salaam Kazi, where he will be laid to rest beside his mother. The cemetery also holds the remains of renowned figures like Mohammed Rafi and Dilip Kumar.
Earlier this week, on December 5, fellow veteran actors including Jeetendra, Johhny Lever, and Sachin Pilgaonkar visited Junior Mehmood. Jeetendra, who shared the screen with him in movies such as "Suhaag Raat" and "Caravan," expressed his deep respect.
